Description:
Self-paced, self-guided instruction is all well and good, but at the end of the day, most people could use a little feedback–especially when they’re ready to build a design portfolio and hit the job market. Not to worry, this book provides actual instructor feedback along with the self-paced, individualized instruction in Photoshop and Illustrator that designers need. Written by the faculty of New York-based, accredited online design school Sessions.edu, the book uses the school’s trademark project-based curriculum to teach essential design concepts with Photoshop and Illustrator. After a brief intro to the world of graphic design, Sessions instructors provide quick “refresher course” chapters on the two programs. Then, armed with Photoshop and Illustrator basics, readers tackle a series of projects that stretch their imagination and creative muscles involving logo design, magazine layouts, illustrations, poster design, digital imaging, book cover design, packaging design, and more. Best of all, readers are encouraged to post their work for expert feedback from Session.edu faculty on “Studio Sessions,” the custom Web site created for this book.

Lucky Luke Comics In Serbian(talicni Tom)

Lucky Luke

Lucky Luke Comics In Serbian(talicni Tom)

Lucky Luke is a Franco-Belgian comics series created by Morris, and over period written by René Goscinny. Set in the American Old West, it stars the titular character, Lucky Luke, the cowboy known to shoot faster than his shadow.

Along with The Adventures of Tintin and Asterix, Lucky Luke is one of the most popular and best-selling comic-book series in continental Europe, but unlike Tintin and Astérix, despite its popularity in Canada, only a handful of the series’ adventures have been translated into English.

Publication history
First appearance of Lucky Luke and Jolly Jumper in Arizona 1880 (1946)
First appearance of Lucky Luke and Jolly Jumper in Arizona 1880 (1946)

Both a tribute to the mythic Old West and an affectionate parody, the comics were drawn by the Belgian artist Morris who drew Lucky Luke from 1946 until his death in 2001. The first Lucky Luke adventure named Arizona 1880 appeared in the Almanach issue of the comics magazine Le Journal de Spirou on December 7, 1946. After several years of solitary work the strip, Morris began a collaboration with Rene Goscinny who became the series’ scenarist for a period that is considered the golden age of the series. This started with the story Des rails sur la prairie published on August 25, 1955 in Spirou. Ending a long run of serial publications in Spirou, the series shifted to Goscinny’s magazine Pilote in 1967 with the story Les cousins Dalton, subsequently leaving publisher Dupuis for Dargaud.

After the death of Goscinny in 1977, several scenarists have tried to fill the role of storyteller the Lucky Luke tradition, such as Vicq, Bob de Groot, Jean Léturgie and Lo Hartog Van Banda. In addition to continuing the series, Morris started the related spin-off series Rantanplan in 1987. At the 1993 Angoulême International Comics Festival, Lucky Luke was given an honorary exhibition.

After Morris’ death in 2001, French artist Achdé continued drawing new Lucky Luke stories in collaboration with writer Laurent Gerra.

Plot summary

Luke, drawing a gun faster than his shadow, fights crime and injustice, most often in the form of the bumbling Dalton brothers, Joe, William, Jack and Averell (each one being taller and dumber than the previous one). He rides Jolly Jumper, “the smartest horse in the world”. He is often seen with Rantanplan, “the stupidest dog in the universe”, whose name is a reference to Rin Tin Tin. A cigarette was constantly on Lucky Luke’s lips in the early stories, but in 1983, in reponse to the growing anti-smoking campaign, Morris replaced the cigarette with a piece of straw, which earned him recognition from the World Health Organization.

In the albums, Luke meets many factual Western figures like Calamity Jane, Billy the Kid, Judge Roy Bean and Jesse James’s gang, and takes part in historical endeavors such as guarding of Wells Fargo stagecoaches, the Pony Express, the building of the first transcontinental telegraph, and the Rush into the Unassigned Lands of Oklahoma.

At the end of each story, except the earliest, Lucky Luke rides off alone into the sunset, singing (in English) “I’m a poor lonesome cowboy, and a long way from home…”.

Puerto Rico (modern World Nations)

Puerto Rico (modern World Nations)

110 Pages l PDF l ISBN: 0791087980 l Publisher: Chelsea House Publications l Size: 10 MB

As tourists walk along the ocean in Puerto Rico’s Old San Juan, few fail to admire the sixteenth-century stone walls that rise magnificently above the azure waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Narrow cobblestone streets lead the visitor into the charm of an old colonial city, where rows of unique shops and restored houses recall a bygone era. Visiting Old San Juan is like traveling into the past, to a time when its military fortifications helped to protect the Spanish Empire that spread across Middle and South America.

Puerto Rico, an island only 111 miles long by 39 miles wide (185 by 63 kilometers), is about three times the size of the state of Rhode Island . Despite its relatively small size , it is marked by great diversity and contrast in its landscape, its people , its vegetation , and its productive activities . The flatness and tropical heat of the coastal lowlands is very different from the cool and rugged hills of the interior. The sparsely populated dense forest of the interior’s highlands contrasts with the crowded cities of the north coast. The island’s climate is tropical, but there are variations within this broad definition. The north coast and the mountainous interior are rainy, but the southern lowlands relatively dry.

11 Days At The Edge: One Man’s Spiritual Journey

11 Days At The Edge: One Man's Spiritual Journey

Review
If you have wanted to go away on an 11-day retreat with spiritual teacher Andrew Cohen but haven’t been able to do it, this book will serve as an excellent substitute. In the summer of 2005, the author went to Montserrat, Spain, where he spent 11 days with his spiritual teacher. Luckily for us, he transcribed what took place and was given permission to share it with us. This is a 498-page book filled with wisdom; wisdom that will challenge much of what you think and believe, even if you have been on your spiritual journey for awhile. The retreat addressed enlightenment on both a personal and collective level and Cohen went very deep with the students. What I like about the book is that it is written in such a way that the reader can feel they are actually present in the room, eavesdropping while students ask questions and the teacher gives very pointed answers. The author is very generous in sharing his own thoughts, doubts, insights, and feelings which adds to the depth of the material. Not so much a book to be read, 11 Days at the Edge is one to be experienced, pondered, and befriended. The information contained in the book has the potential to move the reader into a deeper understanding of life itself. –New Spirit Journal

Product Description
Andrew Cohen is a controversial character. Enlightened teacher, evolutionary philosopher, revolutionary idealist and vocal cultural critic, he has sparked both rage and passion in the post-modern spiritual world. Uncompromising in his call for human transformation, people either love him or hate him. No one feels neutral. Why is it that Andrew Cohen has so angered some and so inspired others? Why is it that as a spiritual teacher with no tradition behind him he was invited to address the Parliament of World Religions in 2004? It is because of his ruthless deconstruction of cultural givens, his relentless quest to see things as they are and explore them in the light of liberated consciousness and his unyielding demand for integrity. In “Eleven Days at the Edge: A Journey into Evolutionary Enlightenment”, you will join the author on a retreat with Andrew to find this out firsthand, and also to discover a radical new spiritual paradigm that reinterprets the traditional revelation of enlightenment in the context of an evolving universe. The emergence of this paradigm helps us to discover that intersection between our spiritual longing, and our care for the world, where both are radically empowered to reach heights that neither could reach alone.

Summary: Devouring and Being Devoured
Rating: 5

In reading, 11 Days at the Edge: One Man’s Spiritual Journey into Evolutionary Enlightenment, I find myself devouring each word and at the same time being devoured by the Ground of Being and Authentic Self that Michael Wombacher writes about as he relays the teachings of Andrew Cohen.

This is a book that needs to be ingested slowly and read over and over again. I am underlining significant teachings on every page and literally feel as if I am receiving the transmission of Andrew Cohen through the written word.

This book will be transformative for anyone who has the courage and mettle to make a choice for the Authentic Self for the sake of the whole. Michael Wombacher has given spiritual seekers a great gift in writing this book. If the teachings of Andrew Cohen can be embraced wholeheartedly as mapped out in this book, we would all be awakening to our next level of spiritual potential together and there would be no need to look elsewhere!

Summary: spine straightening
Rating: 5

This book provided me with intermittant doses of character building. Because of the reflection and contemplation that accompanied each page I could usually read only a few pages at a time, but these small doses had the effect of character building in a spine straightening way.
I found myself looking forward to these doses of inspiration. Michael’s involvement with and explanation of Andrew Cohen’s teaching and the teacher’s own words orient us to the highest parts of ourselves and that which is also most challenging. To begin to respond to that challrnge produces that spine straightening effect and a new confidence in myself.

Summary: New road for spirituality
Rating: 4

Never has a book shaken up the spirituality thought process as this one. Just as most people thought they have found that level of spiruality that we seek to obtain, along comes Mr. Wombacher with his story of a new vision of enlightenment. His story of how his teacher, Andrew Cohen, has set a new vision on how his teachings can help the world today. This book is one of those that will have you thinking about your beliefs whether you it works for you or not. Just as religions are losing ground because they chose not to evolve, spirituality might be at the same crossroads. Does spirituality evolve or just stay the same? The fact that so many of the spirituality groups are not willing to see it as a possibility makes me want to investigate more. Andrew Cohen basically states that it will either work for you or it won’t. He allows everyone to make their own decision.

Summary: Add to your Spiritual Must Read List
Rating: 5

Michael Wombacher has made the wisdom of Andrew Cohen accessible to everyone through his candid account of being on retreat with him. Anyone who reads it can take away a useful & fulfilling approach to living in the modern world. The information shared is personally demanding and also an ideal spiritual companion to any major religion, code of ethics or 12 step program. Michael’s vibrant narrative is clear-cut and appealing. This book is a great read if you’re searching for higher meaning, have already found higher meaning or if you simply want to explore the terrain that new age spiritualism leaves out…the belief that we are accountable for everything we do and that everything matters. Regardless of your spirtiual altitude or religious allegiance this work is truly stirring in an interpersonal sense.

Summary: Armchair inner journey
Rating: 5

I am savoring every page of this book! It’s as if I am on retreat in Montserrat with Andrew and his students, only I have the luxury of reviewing the teachings in my own time and at length. In an actual retreat, one isn’t able to hit the replay button until the richness and depth of meaning sink in. This is more than an interesting and challenge collection of concepts however. The experience of reading this book demands action and a serious call to do the difficult work of one’s own exploration into the nature of consciousness. The author has beautifully captured the flavor of this inquiry in a way that pulls one into their own discovery process. Thank you Michael Wombacher!

The Gargoyles Of Notre Dame

The Gargoyles Of Notre Dame

Review
“The celebrated medievalist Michael Camille takes on the modern era in this sweeping and brave book – with staggeringly original results. Exploring the indispensability of the monstrous to the modern, The Gargoyles of Notre Dame is at once a meditation on the valences of modernity and a rumination on the meanings attributed to the Middle Ages and the cathedral itself in the later nineteenth century.” – Hollis Clayson, author of Paris in Despair: Art and Everyday Life under Siege”

Product Description
Most of the seven million people who visit the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris each year probably do not realize that the legendary gargoyles adorning this medieval masterpiece were not constructed until the nineteenth century. The first comprehensive history of these world-famous monsters, “The Gargoyles of Notre Dame” argues that they transformed the iconic thirteenth-century cathedral into a modern monument. Michael Camille begins his long-awaited study by recounting architect Eugene Viollet-le-Duc’s ambitious restoration of the structure from 1843 to 1864, when the gargoyles were designed, sculpted by the little-known Victor Pyanet, and installed. These gargoyles, Camille contends, were not mere avatars of the Middle Ages, but rather fresh creations – symbolizing an imagined past – whose modernity lay precisely in their nostalgia. He goes on to map the critical reception and many-layered afterlives of these chimeras, notably in the works of such artists and writers as Charles Meryon, Victor Hugo, and photographer Henri Le Secq. Tracing their eventual evolution into icons of high kitsch, Camille ultimately locates the gargoyles’ place in the twentieth-century imagination, exploring interpretations by everyone from Winslow Homer to the Walt Disney Company. Lavishly illustrated with more than three hundred images of its monumental yet whimsical subjects, “The Gargoyles of Notre Dame” is a must-read for historians of art and architecture and anyone whose imagination has been sparked by the lovable monsters gazing out over Paris from one of the world’s most renowned vantage
